Did you ever wish, when playing Pokémon Gold, Silver or Crystal, you could go outside the routes and towns to see what’s beyond the trees and mountains?
That was my inspiration for creating these expanded Johto and Kanto over-world maps.
• Each poster is double sided, featuring the two regions from these iconic games; two posters can be displayed together to form a huge panoramic image of the Pokémon world!
• Posters are A2 in size (594mm x 420 mm) on 150gsm silk paper. First Edition (labeled in the text box).
• Your poster can either be delivered folded in a board-backed envelope or –for an extra fee– rolled in a tube. Please select your desired option when adding to cart. All shipping options in the UK will be sign-for and international orders will be Tracked and Signed.
• You can purchase two posters for a special discount! Great for sharing with a friend or being able to display both regions side-by-side.
More about the design process:
Each poster is based on the original game maps, using the Gen II tile-set. By sampling the various blocks from these maps, I collaged together whole new areas around the existing routes and towns. These areas include a mix of new routes, wild areas and settlements.
Several of these new areas are based on locations from the anime/movies (like New Island from “Mewtwo Strikes Back”, the Charicific Valley or Bill’s lighthouse) or the Pokémon Adventures manga (Cerise Island); others are based on the games’ history including demo/beta-maps (like the beta-route 36 and the forest at the base of Mt. Fuji), rumoured locations (like the mysterious ‘Island C’ from Red and Green’s development) and maps added in newer games (like the Johto Safari Zone from Heart Gold/Soul Silver). The majority of added areas are completely original!
I tried to make as few changes to the original game maps as possible. Some simple edits, such as adding spaces for the new maps to connect to them, were made and a few larger edits to help with spacing. The Kanto region maps were expanded to make them closer to their Gen I counterparts (G/S/C greatly condensed the whole Kanto region) and allow for more details to be added in between them (and less open water, overall).
Some tiles/blocks contain new colour schemes or had individual pixel edits and in a few cases completely original tiles were made: a lot of care and attention has gone into all of the design. There’s even a few little easter-eggs, such as remote locations that resemble the Missingno. sprites.
The editing process took place over the course of a year, with many changes, additions and tweaks. The result is a unique interpretation of what a complete view of the Kanto and Johto regions could look like, that I hope you will enjoy!
