Emma’s Baby Beanie is worked from the bottom up. First an i-cord is worked to form the bottom edge of the beanie. Stitches are then picked up into the i-cord edge and knitted in the round to form the body of the hat. The ear flaps are worked using short rows and the crown is worked with simple decreases. At the end, stitches are picked up into the edge of each ear flap to knit an i-cord tie on each side.
Emma was a favourite on our list of baby names for number three. To me, Emma very sweetly combines simplicity and elegance, and its petite finale is a deliciously soft “a” that could be right off your baby’s lips. Like its name, the Emma Baby Beanie is a sweet declaration of love for the simplicity of stockinette stitch. Merino and silk mohair make the softest of pairs, and it’s framed by an elegant i-cord edge. You’ll knit it up nearly as quickly as you can say it and I bet you’ll cast on more than one.
